Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University

Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University was established as the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) on June 12, 1964 at Hyderabad. It was however formally inaugurated on March 20, 1965 by Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. It came to be known as Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University on November 7th 1996 in honour and memory of an outstanding Parliamentarian Acharya N.G. Ranga.

In accordance with provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University Act, 1963, some of the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Science were transferred from the Universities to which they had been affiliated to the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University during June, 1964. 

The colleges affiliated under ANGRAU are: Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Hyderabad (established in 1961, affiliated to Osmania University), Agricultural College, Bapatala (established in 1945, affiliated to Andhra University), Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College, Tirupati (established in 1961, affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University) and Andhra Veterinary College, Tiruapti (established in 1961, also affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University). In addition, 41 Agricultural Research Stations, functioning under the Department of Agriculture and four Research Stations of the animal Husbandry Department were transferred to the University in July, 1966 and May, 1967, respectively.

The Office of the Director (International Programmes) was established in 2005. It serves as an internal and external liaison for the University, providing assistance to faculty, administrators and students in enhancing their ability to pursue and develop international activities and initiatives. ANGRAU promotes the process of actively partnering with the International Universities and Organizations to effectively utilize and apply the university's knowledge, resources and expertise to mutually address the needs and problems facing the global society.

The Director (International Programmes) offers a wide range of support services to help faculty advance their international research, education and extension and create international linkages with leading universities and institutions. It plays a prominent role in implementing the following activities:

Library of ANGRAU

The library has a good collection of books. Of these, more than 1,000 books are kept as reference books. The collection includes textbooks, reference books, manuals, monographs, dictionaries, encyclopedias and colour atlases. Around 100 to 200 basic to advanced books are added every year for the users of the library. Thesis/ Dissertations are available more than 300.The ANGRAU Library System is having 10 Libraries in its fold apart from the University Library located at the head-quarter in Guntur.  The main motto of the Libraries is to accomplish its task of reaching to wider user community comprising of students, teachers, scientists and extension specialists.
